Minister Denis Naughten calls on EU to become more self-sufficient on renewable energy

Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughten has called on his EU colleagues to become as 'self-sufficient as possible in terms of energy' in a recent speech to EU Energy Ministers. The primary focus of this self suffieiency is on renewable energy and increasing energy efficiency. Minister Naughten highlighted the importance of meeting the current climate change targets, as well as ensuring that European economies grow in a 'long term sustainable manner'.
This Minister also stressed the need for Europe to increase its production of bio-fuels. Additionally, the minister supported greater use of electricity in road transport and better systems to install renewable energy systems on buildings.
