Mayor of London expands solar power scheme
29th June 2018
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has expanded renewable energy scheme for solar PV panels. Under the scheme, small businesses and homeowners were able to purchase solar panels at a reduced cost. Around 4,000 people signed up for the first phase of the scheme, which led to the recent expansion of the plan to include eight additional councils. The scheme has resulted in an average saving of 35% on the cost of solar installations.
The Mayor hopes that the scheme will help London double its current amount of solar installations. The scheme is part of a wider plan for London to potentially increase its amount of solar panelling to 1 gigawatt by 2030, and eventually making London a zero-carbon city by 2050.
